At Least Seven Killed in Beirut Strikes as Israel Expands Its Offensive Across Lebanon

At least seven people were killed and 24 wounded in two Israeli strikes in the Beirut area on Wednesday, the Lebanese Health Ministry said, as Israel intensified its military campaign across Lebanon.

The strikes targeted vehicles in two separate locations: one in the Jnah area of Beirut’s southern suburbs and another along the Khaldeh highway just south of the capital. According to the ministry, five people were killed and 21 wounded in the Jnah strike, which a Lebanese security source said hit four parked cars, while the Khaldeh strike killed two people and injured three others.

Among those killed in Jnah was Mohammad Baqer al-Nabulsi, the son of journalist Bahaa al-Nabulsi and grandson of the late cleric Sheikh Afif al-Nabulsi.

Israel’s military said it carried out two separate strikes in the Beirut area targeting a senior Hezbollah commander and another high-ranking member of the Iran-aligned group, but did not identify the individuals or confirm whether they were killed.

The attacks are part of a broader Israeli offensive that has escalated sharply in recent weeks. According to Lebanese authorities, more than 1,200 people have been killed and around 1.2 million displaced since the conflict intensified.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said it carried out dozens of attacks against Israeli positions and northern Israeli communities, including a barrage of more than 40 rockets late Tuesday. Air raid sirens sounded across the Galilee region around midnight, according to the Israeli military. The group also reported “fierce clashes” with Israeli troops near the border early Wednesday and said it targeted soldiers with rocket fire in another area.

Israel, for its part, has reported mounting casualties among its troops, including four soldiers killed in recent days during fighting in southern Lebanon.

Israeli officials have reiterated their intention to establish a buffer zone inside southern Lebanon, extending up to the Litani River and potentially beyond, as part of efforts to prevent future attacks on northern Israeli communities.

Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire continued across multiple regions of Lebanon.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes carried out a strike around 3 a.m. on the Hadath area in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

In the Bekaa Valley, four pre-dawn airstrikes targeted the town of Sohmor in the western Bekaa, while two additional strikes hit Mashghara.

In southern Lebanon, an Israeli drone strike on a van in the town of Maaroub killed one person, according to initial reports. Warplanes also struck the outskirts of Shaabiyeh and Majadel, as well as the town of Jbal al-Botm.

A strike in Houmine al-Tahta killed an entire family—father, mother, and two children—while another strike in Aardeh in the Marjayoun district caused a power outage in the area.

Israeli warplanes also conducted mock raids over the city of Tyre and its surroundings during the day, coinciding with artillery shelling of the Qleileh–Hanniyeh area south of the city.

Additional strikes were reported in Hanine, Kafra, and Ghandooriyeh, while artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of Hanniyeh and Mansouri at dawn. Further airstrikes hit Marwaniyeh, areas between Houmine al-Tahta and Bnaafoul, and the towns of Srifa and Deir Kifa. Two more strikes targeted Sajd and Marwaniyeh.

Artillery fire continued along the Bayada–Naqoura axis into the early morning hours, while Israeli drones and warplanes maintained heavy aerial activity over the Tyre region. Intermittent shelling was also reported along the Maroun al-Ras–Bint Jbeil axis, alongside low-altitude overflights over the Jezzine area.

At dawn, three consecutive airstrikes struck the Rishoum neighborhood in Doueir, destroying two homes belonging to Khodor and Hadi Mohammad Hteit and an adjacent agricultural field. Nearby houses were damaged, and the road linking Doueir and Kfouar was cut off. Civil defense teams and members of the Islamic Risala Scout Association worked to clear debris and reopen the road.

Earlier overnight, Israeli warplanes struck the town of Ramadiyeh, causing injuries, and carried out additional raids on Talat al-Kassar in Harouf, the Mahdi Schools neighborhood in Sharqiya, and the Rihan Heights.

The Israeli military also said a surface-to-air missile fired from Lebanon hit one of its drones operating over southern Lebanon overnight. The drone, which was supporting ground troops, crashed after being struck. The military said there was no concern over sensitive information being compromised and that the incident was under investigation.
