Arrest of Gang Members Who Use Facebook to Lure Girls, Blackmail Them for Money
In the context of the daily monitoring conducted by the Internal Security Forces to combat various crimes in different regions of Lebanon, including sexual harassment and extortion, information became available to the Information Branch regarding the victimization of a young woman (born in 1993, Lebanese).
She was targeted by an unknown person she met on Facebook, who falsely claimed to work in an Arab country and expressed a desire to marry her.
The perpetrator then coerced her into sending photos, subsequently threatening to publish them if she did not send him money.
The Information Branch uncovered the identity of the perpetrator and apprehended him.
Through intensive investigations, it was revealed that several girls had been subjected to similar extortion schemes.
