Aoun: Responsibility for Rocket Launches Lies With Those Who Carried Them Out

President Joseph Aoun said Lebanon does not want a confrontation with Hezbollah and categorically rejects any threat of civil war, speaking after an emergency Cabinet meeting at Baabda Palace convened amid escalating tensions.

In remarks delivered by Information Minister Paul Morcos, Aoun made clear that the government will not tolerate unauthorized rocket fire from Lebanese territory. He described the recent launches as “unacceptable” and warned that such actions only provide Israel with a pretext for further strikes.

“We are not seeking a confrontation with Hezbollah, and we reject any threats of civil war,” Aoun said, according to Morcos. “The rocket fire is unacceptable, and it continues to hand Israel justification to retaliate.”

The president cautioned that certain actors are trying to drag Lebanon into chaos at a time when the country is already facing severe political and economic strain.

Aoun emphasized that responsibility for the rocket launches lies solely with those who carried them out, not with the Lebanese people.

“Whoever fired those rockets is fully responsible for that decision, not the Lebanese people,” he said.

He added that the situation could develop further, signaling the possibility of additional political or security measures in the days ahead.
