President Joseph Aoun said Israel’s ongoing strikes across Lebanon will not achieve their objectives, reaffirming the country’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability.
Speaking during a meeting with the ambassadors of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, Aoun emphasized that Lebanon’s stance remains firm, as reflected in last week’s Cabinet decision. The government reiterated its full adherence to the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, while demanding that Israel immediately halt attacks across Lebanese territory.
“I’ve informed the major world powers and the United Nations that Lebanon is fully ready to resume negotiations and implement the necessary security measures to curb Israel’s dangerous escalation,” Aoun said.
The president also highlighted that the government’s decision to place all arms under the exclusive authority of the State will be carried out according to the Lebanese Army’s plan once security conditions allow.
“Any attack on the army or its commander at a time as delicate and dangerous as this is unacceptable, confusing, and suspicious,” he said. “It undermines the authority of the State, casts doubt on its capabilities, and, in one way or another, plays into efforts to drag Lebanon into a regional conflict while ignoring the will of the Lebanese people, who are exhausted by war and insist that only the State has the right to make decisions about war and peace.”
The three ambassadors expressed solidarity with Lebanon during the ongoing crisis and pledged support for those displaced from their homes.
