After 722 Days in Parliament, MP Melhem Khalaf Prepares to End Historic Sit-In

MP Melhem Khalaf is set to leave the General Assembly Hall of the Lebanese Parliament after spending 722 days there, in adherence to the constitutional provision that mandates Parliament to remain in continuous session until a president is elected.

Khalaf had initiated his sit-in at Parliament following the presidential vacuum that arose after the end of former President Michel Aoun’s term.

Sources from "An-Nahar" newspaper revealed that Khalaf had packed his belongings in preparation for his departure after the presidential election and was seen taking commemorative photos of the ballot box and the preparations inside Parliament.

If the Parliament succeeds in electing the 14th president of Lebanon, MP Khalaf will spend tomorrow night, Thursday, in his own bed at home for the first time in 722 days, during which he slept on a couch in one of the rooms adjacent to the General Assembly Hall.
