Head of Kataeb Foreign Affairs Department Urges Reclamation of Lebanon’s Control Over War and Peace Decisions at EPP Meeting

The Lebanese Kataeb Party representative, Head of Kataeb Foreign Affairs Department Marwan Abdallah attended the Political Assembly of the European People's Party (EPP), the first after the recent European Parliament elections in which the EPP won the largest number of seats.

He emphasized the strong ties between the two partner parties and the importance of addressing issues concerning Lebanon and Europe.

Abdallah highlighted in his intervention during the meeting three key topics:

Firstly, the ongoing conflict in southern Lebanon, must not escalate into a full-scale war threatening the region. Abdallah underscored the necessity of reclaiming Lebanon’s decision-making power regarding war and peace, restoring sovereignty, and deploying the Lebanese Army along the entire border to be the sole guarantor of security and stability in accordance with international resolutions 1559 and 1701.

Secondly, the importance of European Union assistance in the swift election of a Lebanese President who could engage with all Lebanese factions, ensure the proper functioning of State institutions, and restore optimal relations with friendly nations.

Thirdly, the issue of the Syrian presence in Lebanon needs to be thoroughly discussed since it remains one of the heaviest burdens straining the Lebanese economy. Abdallah conveyed the Kataeb Party and Lebanon's perspective on European policies regarding this issue to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

On the sidelines of the EPP meeting, Abdallah met with the President of the European People's Party, Manfred Weber, to whom he handed over a message from the head of the Kataeb Party outlining the future of ties with the EPP and the main issues that constitute the basis of their joint efforts.
