Portuguese newspaper Diário de Coimbra reported over 2.2 million litres of wine from the Levira Distillery, one of the largest distilleries in Portugal, flowed through the town’s streets. The torrent of wine did not cause any injuries, but it did flood a house’s basement that was near the distillery.
On Monday, a popular account BNO News (@BNONews) shared a video of the wine flood on X. This clip gathered over eight million views.
Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “Aha I love wine man I would lie down on the street with my mouth open and just drink all that wine haha who’s with me?”. Another person wrote, “Oh, what a fantastic problem to have! Who needs regular streets when you can have wine rivers instead, right? #WineFlood #OnlyInPortugal”.

It said, “The causes of the incident are being investigated by the competent authorities. We take full responsibility for the costs associated with damage cleanup and repair, with crews available to do it immediately. We’re committed to resolving this situation as soon as possible”.
