Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, shared a message for the Lebanese people on Friday, reflecting on the challenges of 2024.
"2024 has been an extraordinarily difficult year for Lebanon. Too many lives were lost, affected, and upended. The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah caused immense suffering and trauma, leaving widespread destruction. The long journey of healing, recovery, and rebuilding has only just begun," Hennis-Plasschaert stated.
"Although much work remains to ensure the ceasefire holds and brings the security and stability the Lebanese people deserve, 2025 holds the promise of new opportunities and reasons for hope," she added.
"The United Nations has supported Lebanon and its people through tough times in the past and continues to do so now. On behalf of the entire U.N. family, I extend my wishes for peace, health, and greater prosperity to all Lebanese in the coming year," Hennis-Plasschaert concluded.
