A spokesperson for UNIFIL said that the situation in southern Lebanon remains concerning, noting, however, that neither Israel nor Hezbollah seems to be looking to escalate the situation further.
"The geographic distribution of the shelling in southern Lebanon indicates that neither Hezbollah nor Israel wants to escalate the conflict," the spokesperson told Asharq newspaper.
The spokesperson pointed out that the likelihood of miscalculations between Israel and Hezbollah is increasing as time goes by, explaining that the rate of shell exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah, although limited in scope, is not decreasing.
"We and the international community are still looking for a solution to calm the situation in southern Lebanon."
"Our forces continue to undertake 450 missions daily despite the security conditions in southern Lebanon," he said, adding that the UNIFIL's missions remain within the scope of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, in support and coordination with the Lebanese army.
