U.S. President Donald Trump said Lebanon is not included in the recently announced two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran, attributing the exclusion to the presence of Hezbollah and describing the situation as a separate conflict.
In remarks to PBS News, Trump confirmed that the truce does not extend to Lebanon when asked directly about the issue.
“Yeah, they were not included in the deal,” he said.
Pressed on the reason, Trump pointed to Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group active in Lebanon.
“Because of Hezbollah. They were not included in the deal. That’ll get taken care of too. It’s alright,” he added.
Trump also signaled that he accepts Israel’s continued military operations against Hezbollah despite the ceasefire with Iran. When asked whether he was comfortable with ongoing Israeli strikes, he responded: “It’s part of the deal — everyone knows that. That’s a separate skirmish.”
