Tawile Voices Concern over Social Chaos

Head of the Kataeb’s Economic and Social Council Jean Tawile stressed that Hezbollah-backed ruling system was holding sway over Lebanon, blaming it for the country’s deteriorated situation.

“Hezbollah is controlling the state, the institutions and the judiciary. I am concerned over a social chaos that might rage the country,” Tawile said in an interview with Sky News Arabia.

He pointed out that no economic nor monetary reforms were being made, saying bank losses are not recognized in a bid to postpone reforms indefinitely.

“Sayrafa platform was supposed to set the exchange rate legally so it could curb the black market. What Lebanon and the Lebanese are witnessing the failure of the subsidy policy that wasted the mandatory reserve,” he noted.

“The misapplication of the monetary policy led to the country’s collapse. 82% of Lebanon’s population is now living below the poverty line,” he explained.

“When Hezbollah is in control of monetary and economic policies, in addition to others, then the result is an inevitably monetary failure as it is supporting the parallel economy,” he said.
