Syria denied today, Thursday, reports that it is considering sending Syrian military forces to Yemen to participate in the fight against the Houthis, asserting that its priorities "focus on stability and rebuilding the country, not opening new fronts."
Syrian presidential advisor for media affairs Ahmad Mufaq Zidan stated: "The circulating reports about sending Syrian forces to Yemen are false and untrue," emphasizing that his country's policy is based on "stability, peace, and cooperation, not on opening new fronts."
Damascus: Rebuilding the Country is a Priority
For its part, the Syrian Ministry of Information confirmed that "Damascus's priority at this stage is to rebuild the country and strengthen its institutions, alongside cooperating with partners in reconstruction efforts and improving living conditions for Syrians."
This Syrian denial comes after reports about the potential involvement of Syrian forces in military operations in Yemen raised questions about the nature of the role that Damascus could play in regional developments.
"Axios": Talks Between Riyadh and Damascus
The "Axios" website reported yesterday, Wednesday, citing three American officials, that "Saudi Arabia and Syria are in talks regarding sending Syrian forces to Yemen to participate in a counter-offensive against the Houthis."
According to the site, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara is seriously considering the proposal, but has not made a final decision on it.
"Axios" reported from the officials that "the discussion is primarily between Saudi Arabia and Syria, with both countries consulting with the administration of President Donald Trump, which does not oppose such a step in principle."
