Israel Says It Destroyed 80-Meter Hezbollah Tunnel Amid Ongoing Southern Lebanon Campaign

Israel’s military on Sunday accused Hezbollah of breaching ceasefire understandings and warned it would “act against it with force,” as cross-border hostilities intensified and southern Lebanon came under sustained Israeli strikes.

According to the Israeli daily Maariv, a scheduled security cabinet meeting was canceled and replaced with a series of consultations. Separately, an Al-Hadath correspondent reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, alongside senior ministers and security officials, was holding a wide-ranging multi-front situation assessment.

Israeli media also reported the cancellation of a religious festival at Mount Meron, citing the worsening security situation along the Lebanese border.

The Israeli army issued urgent evacuation warnings to residents of several towns in southern Lebanon, saying the measures were linked to what it described as Hezbollah violations of the ceasefire. Military spokesperson Avichay Adraee instructed civilians in areas including Doueir, Arabsalim, Sharqiya, Jibsheet, Braachit, Srifa, Dounine, Breqaa, Qaqaiyat al-Jisr, Qsaybeh and Kfarsir to leave immediately.

“In light of the Hezbollah terror organization’s violations of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army is forced to act against it with force and does not intend to harm you,” army spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee said, urging residents to move at least 1,000 meters away and avoid proximity to Hezbollah fighters or infrastructure.

On the ground, Israeli airstrikes continued across southern Lebanon from the early hours of the morning. Strikes hit multiple areas in the Iqlim al-Tuffah region, with explosions reported as far as the coastal city of Sidon. Additional raids and artillery fire targeted villages across the Nabatiyeh and Tyre districts.

Israeli artillery shelled the outskirts of Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Mayfadoun, while an airstrike hit the Rihan al-Zaghrin area in Jezzine. Shelling also resumed on agricultural zones including Qleyleh, the Mansouri plain, and Zawtar al-Sharqiya, while Frun and Ghandoorieh were also struck.

Warplanes carried out further strikes on Srifa, Jabal al-Batam in the Tyre district, Breqaa, Qsaybeh and Shaabiyeh. Aircraft were also seen flying at low altitude and conducting mock raids over the Zahrani area, triggering renewed displacement from nearby villages.

Shortly after midnight, Israeli aircraft struck and destroyed a rest area near the Martyrs’ Garden between Jargoua and Arabsalim. Breqaa was also hit in a separate raid.

The military said it continued broader operations against Hezbollah infrastructure, including the demolition of an 80-meter-long tunnel in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon. According to the Israeli army, the underground facility contained several rooms used by Hezbollah operatives for shelter and logistics. Combat engineers scanned the site before destroying it.

Separately, the army said troops killed two Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon on Saturday after they were identified in the Givati Brigade’s area of operations.

“After the identification, the troops struck and eliminated the two terrorists to remove the threat,” the military said.

The Israeli army also said Givati Brigade forces had located dozens of weapons in recent operations, including assault rifles, anti-tank missiles and additional military equipment.

Overnight, Hezbollah launched several rockets and drones toward Israeli troops deployed in southern Lebanon, according to the Israeli military. It said no injuries were reported.

Israel has continued near-daily strikes across southern Lebanon, where its forces remain deployed along a border strip, targeting what it describes as Hezbollah positions and infrastructure.

Hezbollah, for its part, has maintained drone and rocket attacks against Israeli forces inside Lebanon and against communities in northern Israel.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that five rockets fired toward the Upper Galilee were intercepted, with one landing in an open area. The military also said rockets were launched at the border community of Avivim, with at least one intercepted and no immediate reports of casualties.

“This is another violation of the ceasefire understandings by the Hezbollah terror organization,” the Israeli military said.
