Skaff Says Consensus President Will Be Elected in Early June with International, Regional and Arab Coverage

MP Ghassan Skaff pointed out that "the key to presidential and governmental election is and still in Washington".

"Solving the fundamental crises in Lebanon is contingent upon foreign efforts, and the timing of which foreign powers choose, according to their internal interests linked to external influences," Skaff said in an interview with Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Anbaa".

"The convergence observed in the region among regional players, particularly between Riyadh, Tehran, Syria, and Arab countries, will push towards achieving the presidential electoral in favor of a consensus president more than a challenging president, by the end of May or the first week of June at the latest, which will ensure a good start for the new presidential mandate enjoying international, regional, and Arab cover," he pointed out.

"The timing of the US sanctions against the Rahme brothers, Raymond and Teddy, is more political than reformist, and was formulated in response to the French initiative that adopted the nomination of Marada Movement Leader Sleiman Frangieh, for the presidency. This means that the timing of the presidential election awaits a signal from abroad, unless an unexpected event occurs to disrupts the regional settlements and rapprochements," he noted.

On the other hand, Skaff believed that "Hezbollah and Israel have mutual keenness not to engage in a conflict, while the launching of rockets by Hamas against Israel was nothing but fulfilling the desire of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps."
