Iranian authorities have reportedly pressured Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri over the expulsion of Tehran’s ambassador from Beirut, but sources say efforts to reverse the decision have so far failed.
“Iran and Hezbollah want to bring down the Lebanese government, but Berri is standing firm,” the sources told Al-Hadath, noting that the parliament speaker prefers political pressure and boycotts rather than forcing a Cabinet collapse.
The sources added that Tehran is also pressing Berri to take a clear stance against the United States, further heightening tensions in Lebanon’s already fragile political environment.
Meanwhile, ministers allied with Hezbollah and the Amal Movement are reportedly considering skipping today’s Cabinet session. One minister told Al-Modon that attendance would depend on developments later in the day, emphasizing that “all options remain open.”
Hezbollah MP Ibrahim Mousawi, a member of the party’s “Loyalty to the Resistance” parliamentary bloc, confirmed the group’s position via NBN channel, saying the bloc “will not participate in the Cabinet session if the decision to expel the Iranian ambassador is not addressed.” He added that a boycott “is likely if the issue remains unresolved.”
