Senator Close to Trump Urges Israel to Take Action Against Iranian Nuclear Threat

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take whatever steps necessary to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, a spokesperson for Graham told Axios.

The remarks came during a meeting in Jerusalem on Saturday, where Graham met Netanyahu and Israel's newly appointed Minister of Defense, Israel Katz.

Graham, who has played a significant role in shaping Trump's Middle East policies, said in a statement to Axios that he "has never been more worried about an Iranian nuclear breakout than right now."

"It is in America's interest to ensure the Iranian regime does not posses a nuclear weapon. This is a critical and dangerous moment for our friends in Israel and the world at large. It is imperative that the United States is seen and heard as having Israel's back against the threat coming from Iran," the statement read.

The meeting comes at a time when Netanyahu is seeking strong support from the Trump administration to take more aggressive action against Iran’s nuclear program. According to Israeli officials, Netanyahu is advocating for military measures to halt Iran’s nuclear advancements, with hopes that the incoming U.S. administration will back such a strategy.

Last weekend, Netanyahu's close confidant, Ron Dermer, held a two-hour meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, where discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear threat took center stage. While details of that conversation remain private, the focus on confronting Iran’s nuclear ambitions was clear.
