Judiciary assistants at the Justice Palace in Beirut and in other regions of Lebanon began a weeklong strike on Tuesday, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• The judiciary assistants issued a statement last week announcing the strike and demanding “improved material conditions,” including pay raises and financial assistance with school and medical expenses, as well as the renovation of courthouses across the country.
• Judiciary assistants in Saida were carrying out the strike from their administrative centers, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the area reported. In Akkar, judicial assistants refused to appear at either of the Halba or Qobeiyat courts, the NNA reported.
• Earlier this month, three judges announced their refusal to return to the Baabda Justice Palace before their workplace’s condition improved, citing a lack of cleanliness, electricity and water.
