In a televised interview, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam sought to outline a vision for bringing the state back into the sovereignty equation and breaking the link between the logic of the state and the logic of force. A man who was kidnapped two days ago in the Aley area of Mount Lebanon was rescued on Sunday by the intelligence services, the National News Agency reported.
Here's what we know:
• The kidnapped man was an engineer from Aley. Five of his kidnappers were arrested, the NNA reported. The circumstances of the kidnapping were not immediately clear.
• According to information obtained by the local channel LBCI, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of $2 million from the family of the kidnapped man, who was tortured.
• Crime has increased over the past two years in a Lebanon in the midst of socio-economic and financial collapse.
