Microsoft Declines Facial Recognition Tech Request over Human Rights Concerns

Microsoft Corporation rejected a request made by a California law enforcement agency to install facial recognition technology in officers’ cars and body cameras to scan suspects, saying that this would violate human rights.

The company's President Brad Smith explained that artificial intelligence was mostly trained on white and male pictures which might lead to confusion and mistaken identity when it scans women and minorities.

“Anytime they pulled anyone over, they wanted to run a face scan. We said this technology is not your answer,” Smith said.

However, Microsoft did agree to provide the technology to an American prison because the location is limited and it would help enhance security and safety.
