Sayegh Welcomes Jounieh Highway Expansion, Calls for Comprehensive Transport Plan

MP Salim Sayegh on Wednesday welcomed Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny’s announcement that the Jounieh highway will soon be rehabilitated and expanded, describing the decision as an important but partial step toward addressing chronic traffic congestion in Keserwan.

In a post on X, Sayegh said that reviving long-stalled projects in the ministry was “a strong confirmation of our choice for a new era for a new Lebanon.”

“The decision to expand the Jounieh highway is a necessary step to ease part of the traffic congestion, but it is not enough,” Sayegh wrote. “The ultimate solution lies in a comprehensive and integrated transportation plan for Keserwan-Ftouh, from the unfinished Ftouh roads to the Zouk–Faraya–Kfardebian road.”

The Jounieh stretch of the coastal highway is one of Lebanon’s most congested arteries, often paralyzing traffic to and from Beirut during peak hours. Successive governments have pledged expansions and alternative routes, but most projects have stalled amid financial and political crises.

Sayegh insisted that a full-scale transportation strategy was essential to resolve the longstanding traffic bottleneck.

“No right is lost as long as there is someone to claim it,” he concluded.
