Sayegh Urges Swift Action on Waste Crisis, Calls for Revival of Treatment Plant Project

Kataeb MP Salim Sayegh on Tuesday urged the Lebanese government and Parliament to act swiftly to address the country’s growing waste crisis, warning that the issue has become a pressing public health, environmental, and national concern.

In a post on X, Sayegh called for the immediate passage of waste management legislation, stressing that “this is a public health, environmental, and national priority.”

He said a long-term solution lies in relaunching the waste treatment plant project developed in partnership with MP Neemat Frem, and called on the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) to immediately find an alternative to prevent further garbage buildup in Jdeideh.

"Who, other than the corrupt system, has prevented the operation of the Ghosta plant for years?” Sayegh asked, criticizing years of political paralysis surrounding waste management infrastructure.

“We’ve done our part and freed Lebanon’s political decision,” he continued. “It’s now up to the government to decisively free its development decisions; we’re counting on it.”
