MP Dr. Selim Sayegh has sparked a debate on Lebanon’s political scene with a compelling post on the "X" platform.
Addressing remarks by the Head of Hezbollah's Coordination and Liaison Unit Wafiq Safaregarding a veto on Dr. Samir Geagea, Sayegh questioned the timing and intent behind the statement, urging a deeper reflection on the true stakes at play in the country's leadership battle.
Here is his full statement: “Why has Wafiq Safa's statement about a veto on Dr. Samir Geagea emerged at this particular time? What is its purpose? Is it intended to facilitate the election of General Joseph Aoun as army commander, or to obstruct it? Will everyone fall into the trap, or do those who overthink believe that the Lebanese lack political acumen? It is a grave mistake to assume that stoking tensions and provoking Christians will yield gains, as the battle is not about the leadership of a sect but the leadership of a nation.”
