Kataeb MP Salim Sayegh met with Mustafa Adib, Lebanon’s Ambassador to UNESCO, to discuss the progress of the initiative the latter has launched to strengthen international protection for Lebanon's archaeological sites, with a particular focus on Baalbek.
The ancient ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage location, is increasingly under threat, facing daily violations and the risk of destruction due to ongoing hostilities.
During the meeting, Sayegh commended Adib’s efforts in convening a session of UNESCO's Executive Board to address the urgent need for global action, and emphasized the support of Lebanese parliamentarians from across the political spectrum for a clear, decisive resolution from UNESCO.
Sayegh also offered his expertise as a professor of international law and international relations, stating that he was at Adib’s disposal to assist in advancing this matter at the international level.
