Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed the kingdom's support for Lebanese President Joseph Aoun's efforts to strengthen Lebanon's sovereignty and invited him to visit Saudi Arabia during a phone call on Monday, as the Lebanese leader continued a high-profile visit to Washington ahead of talks with U.S. President Donald Trump.

According to a statement posted by the Lebanese Presidency on X, Aoun and the Saudi crown prince discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and the wider region.

During the call, Mohammed bin Salman reiterated Saudi Arabia's support for Lebanon "at this critical juncture" and endorsed the course adopted by Aoun to safeguard the country's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

The crown prince also reaffirmed Riyadh's commitment to assisting Lebanon in all sectors where support is needed, in line with the priorities set by the Lebanese government.

He invited Aoun to visit Saudi Arabia for talks on issues of mutual interest between the two countries.

Aoun thanked the crown prince for Saudi Arabia's continued support for Lebanon and for the measures the kingdom has taken to help strengthen the Lebanese economy. He also expressed his appreciation for the invitation and pledged to accept it.

The conversation took place while Aoun is in the United States, one day after meeting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and ahead of his scheduled meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday.

The timing of the call was particularly significant, informed political sources told Al Markazia, saying it reflected continued coordination between Beirut and Riyadh as Lebanon seeks to implement a U.S.-brokered framework agreement with Israel and advance efforts to restore state authority.

According to the sources, the call reaffirmed Saudi-Lebanese coordination over Beirut's position on the framework agreement and the process of securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory.

The sources said Aoun and Mohammed bin Salman agreed that Israel must fully comply with the terms of the agreement by completing its obligations, particularly withdrawing from Lebanese territory.

In return, Lebanon would move without delay to deploy the Lebanese Armed Forces in the designated pilot zones while launching a nationwide process to place all weapons under the exclusive authority of the Lebanese state.

According to the sources, once that process begins, the prospects for reaching broader agreements that would formally end the state of war between Lebanon and Israel would improve significantly.
