Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, has departed for Washington to attend the annual spring meetings of the World Bank at its headquarters in D.C. During his visit, he is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with various US administration officials, including those from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Treasury, Commerce, and Justice, as well as several US Senate members.
The discussions will focus on the World Bank's ongoing initiatives in Lebanon, particularly addressing issues related to food security, social safety nets, and energy programs. This includes reviewing the progress of projects such as the emergency social safety net project and the Green Agricultural and Food Transformation (GATE) project, which was approved by the World Bank last year.
Minister Salam anticipates positive outcomes from these meetings, especially in terms of bolstering international support and World Bank assistance aimed at mitigating poverty and providing aid to the most vulnerable families through Lebanon's social safety net program.
