Lebanese authorities are deploying security forces around Beirut’s iconic Raouche Rock ahead of a planned Hezbollah event, informed sources told Al-Hadath.
The security deployment will include land and sea patrols to enforce the law, in line with a circular from Prime Minister Nawaf Salam prohibiting the use of public spaces without official authorization. Riot control units will also be on site to prevent any potential breaches, sources confirmed.
Hezbollah intends to illuminate Raouche Rock with images of its late leaders, Hassan Nasrallah and Hachem Safieddine.
The event, scheduled for September 25 at 6 p.m., is part of an 18-day commemoration marking the first anniversary of Nasrallah’s assassination by an Israeli airstrike on September 27, 2024.
On Monday, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam issued a circular emphasizing the strict enforcement of laws governing the use of public land, maritime areas, heritage sites, tourist attractions, and buildings with significant national symbolism.
Salam said the move comes “in response to a recent rise in instances where public property has been used for commercial, private, or political purposes, including the repeated exploitation of national monuments for propaganda or partisan activities.”
He also reminded that “legal provisions for the use of public property require prior approval from the relevant authorities.” The circular calls on all administrations, public institutions, municipalities, and concerned services to prohibit any unauthorized use of land and maritime public spaces, as well as archaeological, tourist, or highly symbolic national sites.
