Report: Kataeb Meetings Signal No Imminent Escalation

Over the past few days, the Kataeb Party’s headquarters in Saifi hosted a series of high-level diplomatic meetings, bringing together international envoys and Lebanese officials to discuss the country’s political, security, and economic challenges.

Among the visiting diplomats were French President Emmanuel Macron’s special envoy to Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, and the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. The party also received a delegation from the American Task Force for Lebanon (ATFL).

According to sources close to the discussions cited by MTV, the meetings underscored that “there are no signs of escalation before the end of the year,” with the international community encouraging Lebanon to seize the moment to take decisive action on key issues, including consolidating weapons under state authority, asserting state sovereignty, and implementing essential financial reforms before the current window of opportunity closes.

The sources added that there is “broad international consensus in support of Lebanon’s government and leadership,” but warned that tangible support is unlikely to be forthcoming until the country takes concrete steps. Particular attention is now focused on the Mechanism session scheduled for December 19, where negotiators are expected to define the objectives of ongoing discussions.
