Hezbollah has agreed to reposition its military presence north of the Litani River, creating a demilitarized buffer zone in southern Lebanon, MTV sources revealed on Wednesday.
Hezbollah reportedly consented to isolate the ongoing conflict in Lebanon from the Gaza front, retreating its forces and weaponry from areas south of the Litani.
According to sources, Hezbollah has communicated its agreement to a 60-day ceasefire proposal. This development was conveyed to Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri, who is currently leading negotiations with U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein.
The ceasefire arrangement includes Hezbollah's acceptance of a full and comprehensive implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which mandates the withdrawal of armed groups from areas close to the border with Israel.
The sources also noted that Lebanese officials have reached a consensus to place Beirut’s airport and port, as well as the country's eastern and northern land borders with Syria, solely under the Lebanese Army’s control. This move aims to ensure that no weapons are smuggled across Lebanese borders.
