Report: Hamas Agrees to Disarm Under International Supervision

Hamas has agreed to hand over its weapons to a joint Palestinian-Egyptian authority under international supervision as part of a U.S.-backed plan proposed by President Donald Trump, a senior Hamas source told Al Arabiya/Al Hadath on Sunday.

According to the source, the Islamist movement has informed the United States of its acceptance of the plan, which includes a permanent Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in exchange for Hamas’s disarmament and the transfer of control to a new joint authority. The group reportedly received American guarantees through Qatar that Israel would commit to the withdrawal once the terms were implemented.

The source added that Hamas has already begun collecting the bodies of Israeli victims in Gaza as part of the broader deal, and has asked Egypt to mediate a temporary suspension of Israeli airstrikes in specific areas to allow the operation to proceed.

The official said the repatriation of bodies would take time, while the release of live hostages would occur in a single stage. Washington, he noted, has shown “flexibility” regarding the timeline for the process.

The source also revealed that the group’s leadership will decide on its own whether to leave Gaza, emphasizing that U.S. guarantees ensure they will not be targeted. Hamas has provided mediators with a list of Israeli hostages and bodies to be presented to Israel, which “knows their number precisely,” he said.

Negotiations are expected to be “swift and intensive,” the Hamas source added, underscoring that the group is committed to the ceasefire and to implementing Trump’s initiative. He accused Israel of “undermining the plan” through continued airstrikes and destruction, while stressing that Hamas “will not fall into Israel’s trap.”

In parallel, Israel’s Channel 12 reported that Hamas has demanded the release of senior Palestinian prisoners as part of the exchange deal linked to the broader agreement.

Trump’s peace plan does not specify a timeline for Israeli withdrawal but stipulates that Israeli forces will pull back to an agreed line to facilitate hostage releases. All military operations are to be suspended until the full and gradual withdrawal is completed.

Ahead of Trump’s announcement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army would redeploy but maintain control over areas of “strategic importance” inside Gaza.

He reiterated that Hamas’s disarmament would be achieved “either diplomatically under Trump’s plan, or militarily if necessary.”

In a televised address, Netanyahu reaffirmed that Israeli forces would remain deep inside Gaza “to protect Israel’s security and ensure the war’s objectives are fully achieved.”
