Quintet Committee Ambassadors Gather in Beirut: Diplomatic Maneuvers Amidst Presidential Stalemate

Ambassadors from the Quintet Committee nations in Lebanon plan to convene in Beirut this week to formulate a unified approach to the presidential deadlock.

The deadlock persists as proposed candidates from political factions have failed to secure a breakthrough. Sources suggest that the French, among others, prefer separating the presidency issue from the situation on the southern front. However, others in the Quintet Committee believe this separation is challenging, particularly with Hezbollah involved in the ongoing conflict in the south.

After the ambassadors' meeting, they will engage with Lebanese officials to discuss potential ways out of the impasse, focusing on determining a third option without specifying names.

Concurrently, French Presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian is set to visit Riyadh and Doha before heading to Lebanon in February. A meeting between Saudi and Iranian ambassadors aligns with the Quintet Committee's initiatives in Lebanon.
