President Amine Gemayel described the election of General Joseph Aoun as President of the Republic as a pivotal opportunity for Lebanon's salvation and a call for the Lebanese people to unite to rescue the nation after the turbulent challenges it has faced.
After meeting President Aoun at the Presidential Palace, Gemayel stated: “Beyond congratulations, we expressed our sincere affection and appreciation to the president, and we have full confidence in his ability to shoulder the responsibility of rescuing the country.”
When asked about the designation of President Nawaf Salam to form the government, President Gemayel responded: “The appointment of President Salam reminds us of President Saeb Salam, who was tasked with forming a government during difficult circumstances. He raised the slogan ‘One Lebanon, not two Lebanons,’ which remains an urgent demand for the Lebanese people, who long for reaffirming the authority of a unified state. We do not want our Lebanon, their Lebanon, or your Lebanon; we want a Lebanon for all, while some have other agendas.”
In response to a question, President Amine Gemayel stated: “What matters to us is that the inaugural address serves as the cornerstone of the ministerial statement, as it outlined principles and a roadmap that the Lebanese people have long awaited, seeing it as a path to the country’s salvation.”
Gemayel called for leveraging international support, emphasizing that it should catalyze recovery.
He added: “Lebanon’s salvation lies in protecting its sovereignty, its people, and honoring its commitments, most recently the ceasefire agreement. Undoubtedly, Lebanon’s salvation passes through the South, and it is imperative to understand the urgency of accelerating efforts to heal the South’s bleeding wounds.”
