Shortly thereafter, army commander General Rodolphe Haykal made it clear to Prime Minister Nawaf Salam that the military did not have the means to implement the government's decision. Now, the Lebanese army finds itself in an uncomfortable position.

Former President of the Lebanese Kataeb Party Amine Gemayel expressed his heartfelt condolences to King Mohammed VI of Morocco in the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck his homeland last Saturday, resulting in numerous tragic losses of life.
Gemayel extended his sympathies to the grieving families who have lost their beloved ones and to all those who have been profoundly impacted by this tragic event.
He also conveyed his wishes for a complete and speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries during this unfortunate disaster.
President Gemayel also offered his condolences to the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Lebanon, Mohammed Akrine.
