Kataeb Urges Immediate State of Emergency, Demands Full State Authority to Prevent Further Deterioration

The Kataeb Party’s Political Bureau held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of Deputy Party President Bernard Gerbaka to discuss the latest political and security developments in Lebanon. Following the meeting, the Bureau issued the following statement:

1. The Political Bureau strongly condemns the Israeli airstrikes that targeted Beirut and other areas across Lebanon, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries. It holds Hezbollah fully responsible for the escalation that led to the current crisis.

The Bureau reiterates its urgent call for the Lebanese State to declare a state of emergency and assume full control to prevent further deterioration. It urges authorities to accelerate measures to disarm militias, dismantle armed groups, eliminate security hot spots, ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces, secure the country’s borders, rebuild affected areas, and reassert State authority and prestige over the entire national territory.

The Bureau emphasizes that the two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States should serve as an incentive for Beirut to ensure that any agreement with Tehran includes a full cessation of interference in Lebanon, the halt of operations by Iranian-backed armed groups on Lebanese soil, and compensation for damages caused by these groups’ actions.

2. The Political Bureau mourns the tragic deaths in Ain Saadeh of Pierre Mouawad, head of the Lebanese Forces’office in Yahchouch, his wife Flavia, and Roula Matar. It extends heartfelt condolences to their families, colleagues, and friends.

The Bureau expresses deep concern over the lax security measures that allow certain areas to be used as safe havens for armed individuals operating outside the law. It renews its demand for the deployment of the army and security forces across all regions, with tightened monitoring and thorough inspections to ensure that members of the outlawed Hezbollah militia are not embedded among civilian populations.

3. The Political Bureau reiterates the need for full transparency in ongoing investigations into recent security events linked to the conflict, including the Keserwan and Batroun missile incidents, the Ain Saadeh tragedy, and other related events. The Bureau stresses that full disclosure to the public, without concealment, is essential to strengthen trust and prevent the recurrence of such tragedies.
