Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi, accompanied by a delegation of bishops, met with newly elected President Joseph Aoun to discuss Lebanon’s pressing challenges.
Following the meeting, Al-Rahi expressed confidence in the president’s leadership, stating that the latter "enjoys the trust of the people and the international community."
The patriarch praised President Aoun’s commitment to the pledged made in his inauural speech, emphasizing the long-term nature of rebuilding the state.
“The president believes in the promises made in his inaugural address, but the establishment of the state cannot happen overnight,” Al-Rahi noted.
During the discussions, President Aoun expressed his desire to swiftly form an inclusive government.
“President Joseph Aoun told us he wishes to see a government formed as quickly as possible and without excluding anyone,” Al-Rahi shared.
Al-Rahi stressed the importance of collective action to overcome Lebanon’s severe crises.
“This nation belongs to all Lebanese, and everyone must cooperate to revive Lebanon. No one should remain on the sidelines,” he said.
Reflecting on the dire state of the country, Al-Rahi remarked that “Lebanon is at rock bottom, and no one can afford to sit idly by."
"This is precisely the mission of both His Excellency the President and the Prime Minister-designate.”
The patriarch urged the Lebanese people to embrace hope and work together for the nation’s revival.
“Be hopeful, and good things will come. It is time to cast off despair and embrace the beauty of hope. We will rise again, as this is the intent of the president and the prime minister-designate,” Al-Rahi concluded.
