Maronite Patriarch Calls for a President Who Earns Public and Global Trust

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi underscored the critical moment Lebanon faces as the country approaches the election of a new president, urging that the new head of state must earn the trust of both the Lebanese people and the international community.

With only four days remaining until January 9, when the Lebanese Parliament is set to convene to elect a new president, Al-Rahi highlighted the urgency of the situation.

In his Sunday sermon, the Patriarch stressed that the new president must focus on national reconciliation, instilling hope in the hearts of the people and bringing peace to their souls.

He further emphasized that the incoming president should draw his thoughts and principles from the year of the Great Jubilee and the message of World Peace Day.

"Let us pray together for these intentions and for the parliamentary blocs," the Patriarch said. "May their consultations on the qualifications of the next president be fruitful."
