Tawile Blames Ruling Authority for Lebanon’s Deteriorated Situation

Head of the Kataeb’s Economic and Social Council Jean Tawile on Friday blamed the ruling elite for the current situation Lebanon is facing, adding that they have failed to manage social and economic issues namely the problem of electricity.

"For more than 30 years ,the electricity file is still the same despite the plans that have been set. The deteriorated situation we are experiencing is caused by the approach of the political authority, and one of the elements of this failure is the electricity sector," Tawile said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio station.

"The political authority is unable to address the problem of electricity, which has resulted in huge losses, and this explains the World Bank's requirement to increase the electricity tariffs," he added.

"Raising fees before the shutdown of activities in the electricity generator sector would be suicidal.  We, as the Kataeb party have always called for reforms in the electricity sector before the increase of the electricity tariffs . The reforms that should have been carried out are the increase in power supply on a 24-hour basis and the reduction in production costs and the technical and non-technical waste,” he added.

Tawile pointed out that the ruling elite is not carrying out reforms for several reasons one of which is the " mafia of private generators".
