Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday announced the candidancy of Guitta Ojeil for the Maronite seat in the West Bekaa-Rachaya ; deeming May 2022 legislative elections as first step towards change.

 

“The first step towards change and to get out of this reality is the elections; we are continuing the process of nominations in various regions, and today we announce the candidacy of Guitta Ojeil for the Maronite seat in West Bekaa - Rachaya,” Gemayel said during a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Saifi.

 

Gemayel voiced hopes that the new parliament would be different as women have a significant place in the society.

 

“We will fight this battle with all the honorable people and lovers of Lebanon, based on our conviction in the Kataeb party of the role of women in political work; they are more immune to corruption than men,” he noted.

 

He also said that the Kataeb party had already submitted a bill proposing a 30% women quota but it was rejected.

 

"We suggested applying the quota for women in the current law, but our proposal was unanimously rejected by the Parliament," he added.

 

For her part, the candidate for the Maronite seat in the West Bekaa -Rachaya Guitta Ojeil thanked the Kataeb for supporting her candidancy , affirming that change will be achieved.

 

“The past stage has produced deputies in this district who have turned into basic pillars of the system; we are able to be the main pillar of change and to restore a free, pluralistic and sovereign Lebanon that befits its people. We want to restore the rights of the Lebanese and not miss the chances of change.”” she pointed out.

 

“Rachaya is plagued by a number of serious challenges such as poverty, unemployment, marginalization . Time has come for change in this region and the anger caused by this challenging situation must be translated in the ballot boxes," she added.

 

“We won’t compromise on our rights or Lebanon’s sovereignty,” she concluded.
