Kataeb Party on Wednesday praised former Prime Minister Saad Hariri for stepping away from the domestic political scene, deeming this step as a wake up call to stand against this dreadful ruling elite.
“This courageous step confirms that Lebanon cannot remain under the control of this political class. We have been calling for such a decision since the resignation of the Kataeb ministers from Tammam Salam’s government in June 2016, the Kataeb’s rejection of the presidential settlement in October 2016, and the party’s resignation from the Parliament in August 2020,” read a statement issued by the Kataeb Political Burreau following its weekly meeting at the party’s headquarters in Saifi.
“The party has always been fighting against corruption, collapse, the disruption of the Lebanese judiciary, the undermining of democracy and the looting of sovereignty. The Kataeb and Hariri have both disagreed on the approach and options but his criticism of the settlements made ,that have led Lebanon to the brink of collapse, confirms the credibility of his decision,” it stressed.
“The Kuwaiti points addressed to the Lebanese officials in a bid to end the diplomatic rift with the Gulf states , restricting weapons, adopting resolutions of international legitimacy and tightening borders and stepping up security are all State’s duties,” it emphasized.
The Political Bureau also deemed the 2022 draft budget as a new denial of the harsh reality Lebanon is experiencing, stressing that the budget is a part of a comprehensive plan that respects the Constitution and laws.
“This draft should address the dire situation that the Lebanese people are going through. The principles of this draft should be clear, detailed and comprehensive,” it said.
The party also stressed the need to tackle the problem of electricity in Lebanon that caused the waste or billion of dollars.
"The public sector must be reviewed as stated in the second chapter of the Salary Scale Law of 2017. This law has observed a package of reforms which include the adoption of a modern approach in the recruitments and the reproduction of the public sector by encouraging the governance,” it noted.
The party stood a moment of silence in honor of Comrade Randa Rizkallah who passed away after more than 13 months of suffering due to the Beirut Port Explosion.
