Gemayel Following Meeting with al-Rahi: The Lebanese People Needs Help of Friendly Countries

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday met with Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rahi in Bkirki, with talks featuring high on the latest developments in Lebanon.

“Lebanon is our country and this land is ours. We have promised the Lebanese we will defend it, its sovereignty, and the freedom of its people. This matter is not subject to any compromise,” Gemayel said following the meeting.

“We have been through worse circumstances. We did not surrender, we did not back off and definitely we will not give up today despite all those who are trying to take us down” he added.

Gemayel praised the recent stances taken by the Patriarch, saying that the party really appreciate the latter's stances calling for Lebanon’s file being submitted to the United Nations and the international resolutions to defend the country’s sovereignty and freedom.

“The Lebanese people are in dire need of the help of its friendly countries and the preservation of the people's right to self-determination, especially that the State is the only one in possession of weapons,” he added.

The Kataeb leader affirmed that there is a catastrophe today plaguing the country due to some officials’ neglections in properly addressing the current problems the Lebanese are facing, saying that people are suffering while the political class remains unaware of what is really happening.

"We will strongly confront the authority which will become stronger after the health ban is eased, especially if there will be any attempt to obstruct the parliamentary elections,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by the party's Deputy-President Selim Sayegh.
