Gemayel Hopes President Aoun Would Postpone Baabda's National Dialogue

Former President Amine Gemayel on Tuesday hoped that President Michel Aoun would postpone the national dialogue that was scheduled to be held in Baabda Palace on Thursday, saying that the form in which the invitation is presented does not really emulate the existential danger lying in Lebanon in light of the internal and regional risks as well as the sovereignty’s confiscation and the State’s decision.

“Any meeting that doesn’t include these priorities as a binding condition for ‘protecting stability and civil peace” as it is stated in the invitation remains tainted by a formative defect that has repercussions on the country and its people,” said a statement issued by the office of former President Amine Gemayel.

“Gemayel wished that President Michel Aoun will postpone the national meeting and re-arrange his priorities according to the requirements of the Constitution and the supreme interest of the State in a way that preserves Lebanon's sovereignty, its pioneering role and its Arab and international relations,” the statement added.
