Hankache Slams Current Situation Prevailing Over Roumieh Prison and Inmates

Kataeb MP Elias Hankache on Wednesday lambasted the current situation prevailing over the Central prison in Roumieh, slamming the Cabinet for not taking any appropriate measures regarding the issue of the dangerous overcrowding of inmates in the prison.

“Why doesn’t the militant authority strictly protect and regulate the prison to prevent the entry of prohibited machines and devices?” Hankache asked in a series of questions he presented to the government through Speaker Nabih Berri.

“The number of prisoners has now exceeded its designated capacity by 1500 prisoners and the overcrowding has reached a dangerous stage where the number of inmates has outreached 356 prisoners last month,” he said.

Hankache wondered why the Interior Ministry hasn’t taken any procedures to secure better life conditions for the prisoners, affirming that the hygiene conditions are also not any close available in the kitchens.

“And why the Justice Ministry hasn’t yet adopted a clear plan to speed up with the inmates’ trial? Hankache asked, stressing that the prisoners have rights that cannot be deprived from.
