Higher Defense Council Recommends Lockdown Extension

Lebanon’s Higher Defense Council on Tuesday recommended the extension of the country’s general mobilization period for two more weeks due to the latest increase in the numbers of coronavirus cases.

The lockdown will be extended until June 7.

Following the Higher Defense Council meeting, Prime Minister Hassan Diab stressed that some areas will be isolated if the Lebanese will not adhere to the lockdown measures imposed by the government, saying that data show that the epidemic is still widespread.

For his part, Health Minister Hamad Hassan affirmed that the country is in a transitional phase, calling on the cooperation of municipalities and communities so as to ensure that lockdown measures are being followed.

“We are seeking basic solutions and masks are very necessary at this stage,” he added.
