Gemayel Comments on Dropped Law to Shorten Parliament's Mandate

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday commented on the Parliament’s decision to drop the law aimed at shortening the Council’s mandate and holding early parliamentary elections, saying that the Parliament has failed today as it has refused to acknowledge its responsibilities.

“It is regrettable how the Lebanese have to always rely on themselves instead of depending on the State’s institutions to impose changes,” Gemayel said following the legislative session held at the UNESCO Palace.

Gemayel wondered how the lawmakers haven’t done anything for change yet following the October 17 Revolution, saying that they are hiding behind empty slogans so as to continue with the current disastrous situation.

"We need a government and a Parliament that would truly represent the Lebanese so they can arm themselves with legitimacy and be able to take important decisions,” he said.

“ Ferzli appointed himself as an official spokesman for the system that people want to change and he considered that the Parliament should separate itself from the Lebanese street,” Gemayel said regarding the quarrel that happened between him and the Deputy Parliament Speaker Elie Ferzli during the legislative session.

“I had to remind him that without these people there will be no Council,” he added.
