Gemayel Blasts Rioters' Assault on Peaceful Protesters

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Tuesday blasted Hezbollah and Amal movement supporters’ assault on peaceful protesters in Riad al-Solh, Martyrs’ square and Ring Bridge.

“There it is the official sponsor of the government using its best methods to vandalize, terrorize and bully the most distinguished uprising in Lebanon’s history,” Gemayel tweeted

“But the Lebanese people’s will remains the strongest,” he affirmed.

Around 100 Hezbollah and Amal Movement supporters, opposing roadblocks, beat demonstrators, destroyed and burned stages and tents set up by protesters to block the roads, while shouting slogans in support of Nabih Berri, Parliament speaker and leader of the Amal Movement and Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah Chief.

Security forces did not get involved in stopping the rioters and stood aside instead.

The Lebanese Army later on intervened to disperse Hezbollah, Amal supporters from Downtown Beirut.

Many injuries were reported as a result of the scuffle.
