Gemayel Meets with Karami, Calls for New Competent Officials Who Expedite Reforms

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Monday renewed his call for the government’s withdrawal and its required acknowledgement of the exacerbating crisis, as well as the need for it to usher a rescue plan or else give way to a new government that places the country’s interest first.

During a meeting with MP Faysal Karami held at the party's headquarters in Saifi, Gemayel affirmed keenness on maintaining ties between the two and hoped for further cooperation.

“It is important for all factions who oppose the current situation and who are ardent to save the country, the people and their future during this dire situation to conduct a serious dialogue,” he advised.

“We will persist in communicating with everyone especially those who oppose the status quo so that we mutually mull over ways to save Lebanon,” he emphasized.

“I hope that the political authority recognizes this crisis in the upcoming days and months or else it must give way to a neutral government of specialists whose goal is the country’s best interest.”

He stressed the need for a ruling class that is not seeking to serve its own agenda in order to introduce reforms.

In his turn, MP Faysal Karami highlighted the harmony and cooperation with the Kataeb party in the Parliament as they both expressed fear over the downfall of the Lebanese state, its institutions, freedom, democracy, economy, security and development.

Karami hailed the historical connection between the two stressing on the importance of strengthening their bilateral ties.

“The authority and the government are living in a state of denial. Today, they have admitted zero growth while I believe growth has plunged even lower in the presence of corruption and squandering,’ he declared.

“This government cannot carry on; either the Lebanese people take off in its presence or vice versa,” he said.
