Hankache Blasts Government's Irresponsibility Towards Waste Crisis

Kataeb MP Elias Hankache on Tuesday stressed that government officials must adopt measures to ensure equal sharing of responsibilities so as to solve the waste crisis in the country.

“Officials in this futile government must stop tossing responsibilities on one another and instead present a solution because they are the executive authority,” Hankache told Voice of Lebanon radio station.

He noted that the sharing of responsibilities and means of collaboration and participatory action must be determined, as the waste crisis hasn’t been resolved for five years, while officials are unaccountable for their responsibilities and are misleading the public opinion.

He outlined that the Kataeb party has presented solutions to the Environment Minister Fady Jreissaty upon meeting with him including an Article in which the party rejected landfill expansion.

“Four years ago, government officials have promised the people to galvanize municipalities to find a permanent solution through sorting waste at source; but, they did not fulfill their promises and instead they have forced us once more to choose between what is bad and what’s worse,” Hankache slammed, criticizing that they are justifying their actions by claiming to be facing an emergency state with no alternative solutions.

“Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel’s proposal to encapsulate the waste in the Eastern mountain range of Lebanon that is far away from residences and groundwater was rejected,” Hankache pointed out.
