Kataeb Party Calls for Acknowledgment of Political Settlement Failure

The Lebanese Kataeb party on Monday called for everyone to acknowledge the political settlement’s failure, saying that it has drowned the country at all levels, and to step up to hold accountability and join the constructive opposition force to find a serious alternative to save the country.

The politburo blamed the political settlement for disrupting public order, violating the Constitution, unsettling the political, security and civil order and stability, racking up corruption, partitioning and clientelism, and for making the country pay a heavy price in its sovereignty as well as economic and financial structure.

“The government’s stalemate is in its second months, reeling in a charged atmosphere of hate speech and mutual recriminations that shake people’s trust in Constitutional institutions, especially the presidency, the cabinet and the judiciary,” read a statement issued following the weekly meeting of the Kataeb's politburo, denouncing the current political system that is providing a favorable atmosphere for sectarian incitement.

The party called for steering the judiciary’s work clear of any form of political interference and to yield to the solutions stipulated by the law and the Constitution.

The politburo recommended that a socio-economic state of emergency be declared and to come clean with the Lebanese in terms of data and figures.
