The Central Bank of Lebanon announced on Thursday important amendments to key circulars, expanding the scope of depositors who can benefit from its provisions.
In a statement issued by Acting Governor, the Central Council of the Central Bank decided to amend Basic Circular No. 166, now allowing depositors who converted their deposits from Lebanese pounds to foreign currencies after October 30, 2019, regardless of the amount, to benefit from the terms of the circular. Previously, only certain depositors were eligible, but this change widens the scope significantly, ensuring that a larger number of people can access the benefits.
Additionally, the Central Council amended Basic Circular No. 147, which now requires banks to accept the return of unused checks that were previously issued. This allows depositors to re-credit their funds into their accounts, thus enabling them to take advantage of the Central Bank’s circulars that apply to their specific accounts.
