Lebanon is preparing to enforce a new set of financial measures that will directly limit the activities of al-Qard al-Hassan, the financial association affiliated with Hezbollah, according to sources cited by Al-Hadath.
The sources said that the relevant authorities have formally notified Hezbollah of the incoming regulations, which Beirut intends to implement in full. The measures, they added, are expected to sharply curtail al-Qard al-Hassan’s operations in the coming period.
According to the report, banking transactions linked to al-Qard al-Hassan will be halted, and ATMs associated with the group will be shut down across the country.
The sources said that once the regulations take effect, al-Qard al-Hassan’s role in Lebanon will be reduced to a narrow function: accepting gold deposits and issuing cash strictly in exchange for those holdings. All other financial exchanges between depositors and the association will be prohibited under the new measures.
