Lebanon Tightens Entry Rules for Syrians Traveling via Beirut Airport

Rafic Hariri International Airport issued a new directive on Monday barring Syrian nationals traveling to Syria via Beirut from entering Lebanon unless they hold a valid foreign residency permit valid for more than six months.

According to Lebanese media reports citing the airport’s circular, Syrians who fail to meet this requirement will be sent back on the same flight they arrived on.

The directive instructs all airlines operating at Beirut’s airport to rigorously check that Syrian passengers traveling to Syria via Lebanon have valid residency permits from abroad that exceed six months. Those who fail to provide proper documentation will be denied entry and returned immediately on their inbound flight.

This new policy marks a shift from an earlier directive issued in February, when Lebanese authorities allowed Syrians who had entered Europe irregularly to transit through Lebanon on their way back to Syria. That previous measure permitted transit stays of up to 24 hours and replaced conflicting regulations that had caused confusion.
